Juneteenth, Freedom, and Choosing Our Future
From delayed freedom to intentional living: what this day means for our future
Today is Juneteenth! This is a day that honors the long, unfinished journey from slavery toward true freedom in the United States.
As a Black woman helping families and teams design lives across borders, I think a lot about what freedom to choose really means.
Freedom to choose where you raise your kids.
Freedom to build work around your life instead of your life around work.
Freedom to say, “We want something different,” and take a first step.
For so many of our ancestors, those choices simply did not exist. Even after freedom was declared on paper, it was delayed, resisted, and violently denied in practice.
Today I’m honoring the generations who didn’t have those choices and the courage it still takes to make brave decisions about your future.
Whether your freedom step looks like researching a new country, planning a scouting trip, changing jobs, or simply resting… it all counts.
However you’re spending this day, I hope you have a moment to rest, remember, and imagine what freedom looks like for you next.
Happy Juneteenth. 🖤❤️💚
