I Built a Tool for Every Expat Who's Ever Panicked About Their Visa Dates
If you've lived abroad long enough, you know the feeling.
You’re somewhere beautiful - a beach town in Thailand, a coffee shop in Hanoi, a co-working space in Chiang Mai - and it hits you. When exactly did I arrive? How many days do I have left? Do I need to make a run this week?
For most long-stay travelers, the answer lives in a spreadsheet, a notes app, or worse - memory. And memory is a terrible immigration strategy.
Why I Built Border Run Tracker
I built Border Run Tracker because the tool I needed didn’t exist.
Expats and digital nomads managing long stays across Southeast Asia deal with a specific kind of logistical stress. Visa rules shift. Countries update their policies. Passport stamp dates blur together. And the consequences of getting it wrong range from fines to being turned away at the border entirely.
The existing solutions were either too complex, too generic, or built for a completely different kind of traveler. Nothing was designed specifically for people living the border run life.
So I built it.
What Border Run Tracker Does
Border Run Tracker is a clean, simple web app that keeps your visa timeline organized in one place. Here’s what it does:
Tracks your entry and exit dates across multiple countries including Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Mexico.
Auto-calculates your exit deadline based on your arrival date and visa type so you always know exactly how many days you have left.
Runs a live countdown to your next required exit date so there are no surprises.
Logs your border run history so you have a clean record of every crossing - useful for visa applications, insurance, and peace of mind.
Plans your next border run with a built-in planner that lets you map out your exit and re-entry dates before you go.
Who This Is For
Border Run Tracker is built for:
Expats on tourist visas managing long-term stays
Digital nomads moving between countries in Southeast Asia
Retirees living abroad on non-immigrant visas
Long-stay travelers who treat border runs as part of their lifestyle
If you’ve ever relied on a sticky note or a mental calculation to figure out your visa situation, this tool is for you.
It’s Free and in Beta Right Now
Border Run Tracker is live right now in beta at borderruntracker.lovable.app and completely free to use.
Create a free account, enter your arrival date and country, and the app immediately shows you your exit deadline and countdown. That’s it. No complicated setup, no subscription required.
What I need from you right now is feedback. Use it, break it, tell me what’s missing. Every piece of feedback shapes the next version of this tool.
A Note on Visa Information
Border run rules change. Countries update their policies, adjust stay durations, and occasionally shift enforcement. Border Run Tracker provides default visa durations as a starting point, and every user can edit those values to match their actual visa stamp.
Always confirm your specific visa conditions with your passport stamp, your embassy, or official government sources before making travel decisions. This tool keeps you organized - your official documents keep you legal.
